We went to a couple of garage sales today, saw  Sean's grandparents, and then slept so Sean could pick up an extra night shift.  We got a nice turntable for $2 then found some pretty valuable records for $.25 a piece -- original pressing of Dirty Deeds for one.

I am learning to play the clarinet.  Sean's teaching me on the b-flat, and then I can play the contra-alto when I'm better (now that he ususally plas the contrabass).

I am doing well in school and I think I'll have my highest GPA to date, since I'm taking a few 101 type requirements and a bunch of filler classes that are all pretty easy.  I won't be able to get second degree in geology at MCC, since they never offer the last 2 courses I need.  I'm not sure whether I want to be full time next semester or be part time and try and buy insurance from the school.  I guess my 2nd spring hospital visit cost $35,000 so I don't want to risk being uninsured.

My asthma is back kinda; I got a nebulizer treatment thing last weekend and I'm back on the inhalers.  Today my throat and neck hurt, so I might be getting sick again.

    stuff
Today I went to the eye doctor and they dilated my pupils which hurt and screwed up my vision.  I didn't expect them to because they'd never done it before.  I managed to get through work but I couldn't see the computer there.

I'm doing pretty well in all my classes, I think.  The only one in which I've missed points so far is History of China and Japan, and I have an essay due in it tomorrow which should raise my average.  I have a Western Civ essay due this week but I need more sources or I might have to change my topic.

ZQ:  I don't know why I was talking about the other idea today, although if I ever run that campaign, I'd like you in it.  For the on-campus game I want to do an adventurer's guild campaign so it won't be a big deal if people join, leave, or have to miss.  The characters would find work through the guild, and most adventures could be a week or two, which would eliminate the issues Sean had with the big game last year.  Pretty much any race and class would be OK if there wouldn't be a huge level adjustment.

A special message for those who have left MCC
As always, the police blotter is the most interesting thing in the school paper.  I bring you this excerpt; I believe it speaks for itself:

    doing well
Just an update to let everyone know that I'm alive and doing well.

They hired a new tech at work to do afternoon/evening shift and she was a total dumbass.  She trained day shift then did ONE whiny, tear-filled evening shift before quitting.  One time she was convinced that she was going to get AIDS from a HIV-positive patient's skin biopsy -- even though it was PRESERVED IN FORMALIN for 24 hours and she was supposed to handle it with gloves and forceps.  And she has some kind of biology-related bachelor's degree.

Also, she was from Pennsylvania -- but didn't know what state Gettysburg was in.

    hospital again
Well I'm back from the hospital, hopefully for good this time.  Last Friday I went to see a specialist about my leg, and he wanted me to have immediate surgery.  He actually admitted me to Strong from his office.  I felt bad because this is the second time we planned our drive to Syracuse and I ended up in the hospital both times.  I am limping again because I had a lot of stuff done to my vein through a hole behind my knee.  I have a metal stent implanted in my hip area.  Apparently I have May-Thurner syndrome, which is a condition where the artery in my left hip squishes the vein causing clotting.

    hmm
Turns out it's the about the same price to be a full-time student at MCC (and covered by my family's health insurance) as it is to pay for my own policy.  Considering the cost of my last hospital visit I don't want to be without insurance.

(I still work through the temp agency, not the lab, and if I did work directly for them, I wouldn't qualify as full-time anyhow)

I went to the doctor today for my follow-up and she said I was doing well.  I'm getting an ultrasound on my leg tomorrow.

    Hi Everyone!
I'm doing pretty well.  I guess most of you know about the blood clot I had; if you didn't, it's why I dropped off the face of the earth last week.  I went into the hospital last Friday afternoon, got out on Saturday, and have been recovering quietly since.  I am doing much better and I can use crutches for short distances.  I hope to be without the wheelchair next week.  I've missed all of you!

I really have to read more Clement.  I have Ocean on Top and haven't read it yet.  Has anyone read it?

    busy
damn.. this is the first time I've checked lj in almost a week.  been super busy.  school until work most every day so frequently away from home 8 am - 11 pm.  I'f you've been trying to get in touch with me or something, sorry I've been so busy.  Try the cell, which still works although I busted the antenna off of today.

Weekend schedule:  Homework, homework, homework!   Chem pre-lab, geography project, bio projects, stress management maybe, and a lot of other crap, plus a ton of extracurricular type stuff.

Work has been inexplicably cold.  It was well below 60 for extended periods of time Thursday.  WTF?  I know there's heat.

Feeling good about the doughnut sale and the tournament.  Jamie is awesome helpful.

Spent another $70 at the bookstore today for a USED stress management book, a chem notebook, and a packet of labs printed on looseleaf paper.   Sucks.

Pretty good week other than the text costs, just insanely busy.  I made it home for a few hours today between my last class and work, and I was sooo happy about it.

    aaaah
I thought I had a freaking foolproof plan this semester to keep my schedule from getting screwed up and not meeting my graduation requirements.  I registered for just the two one-section courses that I needed to graduate, planning to fill in the other multi-section courses later, so if the stuff I needed got moved, I wouldn't get kicked out of it.

So they go and cancel one of my graduation requirements.

It's a class that has not been offered during the previous 3 semesters. It will not be offered again until possibly next Spring, if then.

I am trying to contact the department head to get out of this stupid requirement.  I will not graduate a full year late because of a one-credit seminar.

Today went pretty well.  Our appointment with Shirley ended up not getting written in her appointment book, even though I got a card, but Donna says she may be able to see me when I'm there for the orientations on Thursday.  went to work today to find a new database system being run.  It works okay.  Got to see a day shift person who I hadn't seen for months.

The first intersession orientation is next Thursday.  Orientations will run 9-4; I don't know if Sean and I will be out there first thing b/c I'm working tomorrow night, and he probably is too.

    WE HAVE KATAMARI!!!!!!

...and I got a day off work because no one went to the dermapathologist after Friday.  Of course, that means my paycheck will be double-crap this week, but I'll manage.

Yesterday our family visited for the big dinner.  Everything went well and Sean'sgrandparents brought us a ps2, some clothes and shoes for him, a monopoly set, and a really nice sweater for me.  Sean's grandparents wanted to get a game to go with the system, so I told them to get Katamari, but no one had it in stock.  We'll just order it off the Internet sometime.

This morning I got some shirts from my parents and the stuff I need to fix my desktop, and a book and some candy.  We also got a region free dvd player, and I helped Mom pick out for Sean a ps2 memory card and GTA San Andreas.

Mde it to wings (kinda late) for the first time in months.  Remembered to write the bio prof a letter about independent studies.  Wrote back to the guy setting up our club E-mail.  Sent an e-mail to the campus center person in charge of orientations, and that table thing.

    Roleplaying System
These are the notes from the brainstorming session held today to design a custom roleplaying system.

Our problems with D and D and other systems:
    armor class HP and damage
    damage vs % Classes
    magic Levels and scaling

    D10 percentile system chosen
Die graduation in damage for each 20% higher than counter-throw
Body armor should be damage reduction, not avoidance
    Armor should take damage too

    Setting:
post-apocalyptic paralell Earth -- early medieval tech with scattered remnants of earler higher technology
war generations distant and society feudal and relatively stable
mutations creating various characters and villans
    no elves dwarves, traditional races
    People worship the personified elements
    Read more )
We are creating races for next Tuesday. If you have ideas, bring them in!

    Additional Roleplaying News:
Candyman has books for Vampire: The Requiem, and he is willing to lend or donate them to the club if a campaign starts up.
Chris (tall blond Chris) can GM but he leaves at 4 every day. Josh, can you DM? Do you want to? Who wants to play? When?

Today and yesterd good so far. Yesterday was fine at work. Last night I beat Sean at Trivial Pursuit and he sulked for a whie; now we're up for a rematch.
Yesterday I got some green sneakers at a store closing sale. Today we took Sean to the thrift stores and the costume shop and got him gloves, a monocle, a cigarette holder, a hat, and an umbrella for his Penguin costume. I think I might dress as Pamela Isley for the roundtable; I've wanted to make a lab coat for a while so that would be pretty easy.
